Note: You must be enrolled at least half time to qualify for federal financial aid. Call an enrollment counselor at 1-888-227-2736 to explore your financial aid opportunities and to map out your program with our unique roadmap system.

About tuition and fees.

Tuition varies by campus and type of degree. To learn more about specific tuition and other school fees, contact your local University of Phoenix campus counselor.

How our costs compare.

While the cost of attending a college today can top $20,000 a year at many schools, the cost of attending University of Phoenix is much less than that amount. At University of Phoenix, you can complete your degree much sooner than at other universities, which means you can realize the return on your investment earlier as well.

Flexible and affordable ways to pay.

In addition to competitive tuition fees, we offer the advantage of paying for one course at a time, rather than an entire semester or year at once. This can help you manage your cash flow and personal budget.

Many companies will reimburse part or all of their employees' tuition for college courses. Numerous financial aid options are also available, even to individuals with high income. The University of Phoenix also has a number of scholarship opportunities. Talk with your counselor for more details.

Corporate Reimbursement Plan

The Corporate Reimbursement Plan is available for students whose employers offer a tuition reimbursement program. Students provide us with a valid credit card, but we defer charging your tuition to allow time for your employer to reimburse you. We will charge the valid credit card you provided no more than 45 days from the course start date, regardless of whether your employer has reimbursed you. It is your responsibility to ensure that they do. Resource fees, however, are still due two weeks prior to the start of the course.

Students must adhere to reimbursement guidelines to defer tuition, and they must provide a copy of their company's reimbursement policy and proof of employment. For complete details on this plan, please contact your financial advisor at your campus.

Federal Financial Aid

The University of Phoenix participates in Title IV Student Financial Aid Programs offering the Federal Stafford Student Loans, Federal PLUS Loans, Federal Perkins Loans, Federal Pell and Federal SEOG Grants.

Degree-seeking students enrolled in eligible programs may apply for financial aid as a means of financing their education in full or in part. The University will award Stafford and PLUS loans for a period of up to one year if the student is taking courses necessary for enrollment in an eligible program. Please check with the Financial Aid Office for specific program information.

Information for financial aid is available from any of our University of Phoenix Campuses.

Students qualifying for financial aid may receive a new award each academic year, which is defined as the period of time in which you successfully complete a minimum of 24 credits and 30 weeks of instructional time. Therefore, you may have your eligibility assessed for grants and/or loans several times during your program of study. You should reapply for student financial aid prior to the start of each new academic year.

For information on preferred lenders for Stafford and PLUS loans, please review the University's Preferred Lender List for Stafford and PLUS loans. To apply for a Stafford loan, visit faw.phoenix.edu.

Military Plan

Uniform tuition assistance (TA) policy for all eligible service members went into effect October 1, 2002. For each course that carries post-secondary academic credit from an accredited college or university, the responsible Service shall pay 100% of the cost of tuition up to a maximum of $250 per semester hour credit; the aggregate amount of TA payable in support of any one service member participating in off-duty, voluntary education during one fiscal year shall be $4,500.

Private Loans

University of Phoenix offers private loan products from various national lenders to cover tuition, books and other direct educational costs. These loans are based on the creditworthiness of the borrower. Various fees and interest rates for these products depend on the applicant's credit history and the specific lender's proprietary approval criteria. Some loans provide the opportunity to borrow funds for prior year's tuition costs. All products offered by University of Phoenix feature an online application and school certification process.

Prior to selecting a private loan, students are encouraged to apply for federal financial aid and take advantage of fixed cap interest rates and generous deferment and forbearance provisions. Frequent and/or multiple credit inquiries reduce the applicant's credit score, therefore, students are encouraged to choose a product that best fits their personal financial situation.

University of Phoenix Private Loan Preferred Lender list identifies the loan product, phone number, online application website address, eligibility requirements, annual and aggregate loan limits, applicable fees and interest rates, repayment periods, grace periods and repayment benefits.

For information on preferred lenders for Private loans, please review the University's Preferred Lender List for Private loans.

Third Party Billing Plan

If your company is funding, through your tuition benefit, the educational costs of multiple employees at the University of Phoenix, arrangements can be made to reduce your administrative and paperwork costs by providing your company with direct billing. University of Phoenix will bill the company directly for the tuition of the specified employees, another benefit to the employee so that they can focus on their educational requirements.

Policies

The University's admissions and financial policies are geared toward providing you with clear instructions and maximum flexibility as you progress toward earning your degree. These policies have evolved to accommodate the specific needs of adult students, with consideration for your professional and personal commitments. Some of the more common questions and situations are addressed at the following links:

Program Registration Policy

Students are required to register for their program course of study on an Enrollment Agreement. Registration is typically conducted at an official student orientation session. Students not present during registration should contact their local campus for a registration form and class calendar. Distance Education students should contact a University Admissions Counselor to register. It is the student's responsibility to officially register for the program course of study. Any change to the original registration must be communicated to the local campus staff. Major changes in the student's schedule may necessitate completion of a new Enrollment Agreement.

  • Refund Policy

Because our courses are designed for working adults, we realize that unforeseen circumstances can arise that might require you to interrupt your studies. As long as you notify us prior to the first day of instruction that you won't be able to attend a scheduled class for which you have paid, we will refund 100% of the tuition collected for that course. In the event you are forced to leave a class midstream, there are a number of options available to you, both academic and financial. Naturally, how much of the class has been completed and the academic progress achieved will influence which options will be suitable for you.

Federal Student Aid

Earning your degree is possible.  Most JIU students who are U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens admitted to a JIU degree program and attending at least half-time may be eligible to receive student loan assistance across the years of their academic programs.  Click here to determine your eligibility.

Federal Student Loans have distinct advantages over traditional consumer loans:

1)   Repayment is deferred on subsidized loans until six months after students have graduated or otherwise left school, and

2) Interest rates are historically lower than those of conventional lenders. For 2006-2007, the in-repayment interest rate on the federal loans available to JIU students is 6.8%.

In addition, undergraduates with financial need may be eligible to receive a Federal Pell Grant while pursuing their baccalaureate degrees. To review the types of available federal student aid, click here
