McWeadon Workshops in Second Life

The McWeadon Workshops in Second Life will help you become comfortable in, and familiar with this virtual world. McWeadon instructors will be your personal coaches and guides as you develop inworld skills, and discover an exciting new world. Instruction and coaching will take place in Second Life; discussion and reflection in our Moodle learning management system. You must be 18 years of age or older to take Second Life courses. Access to the Teen Grid is not available.

Requirements

  • You will need to download and install the Second Life client from http://secondlife.com/support/downloads.php.
  • Second Life's Minimum and Recommended System Requirements can be found at the Second Life System Requirements page.
  • Be sure to identify the model of graphics card (also called a "video card") your computer is using. If your computer's graphics card does not meet the Minimum System Requirements, it's likely that your computer is unable to run Second Life. Just because your equipment is new, do not assume that it meets the Minimum System requirements. Older computers often can run Second Life if they meet the minimum system requirements and you update your video card drivers. The instructors do not provide technical support, but will assist you to troubleshoot common problems.
  • Second Life requires your computer and the Second Life servers to exchange data very quickly, so a high speed, fast response internet connection is required for acceptable performance. You can use DSL or cable or other broadband solutions, including wireless connections. Dial-up telephone connections or a satellite internet connection is not fast enough to support Second Life.
  • A headset with microphone is required for all courses.
Course Capacity
Courses will be limited to 7 students with one instructor, 12 students in team-taught courses.
